Playgroup Resumes

From Tuesday February 13th, our free playgroup for toddlers and pre-school children will again be operating on West Campus. All are welcome! Playgroup will operate on Tuesday mornings for two hours. Don’t hesitate to ring our office for more information, or just drop in!

Student Leaders – 2018

At our whole school assembly on December 18th, we presented 28 children with a medallion for being at school 100% of the time, which is a wonderful achievement. We also gave out attendance certificates for term four, and finally we presented our 2018 Student Leaders with their badge. As per tradition, our current leaders played an important role in the assembly, by presenting the new badge to the students who would be helping to lead our school next year. They read out a pledge that was written a few years ago by some former student leaders. Please see the newsletter for details and some photos of this special assembly.

Girls STEM day – Keysborough Secondary College

Fifteen girls were chosen by their teachers to attend a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) day at Keysborough Secondary College last Wednesday. The girls were accompanied by Mrs Heffernan, and they enjoyed a fun – filled day with students from other local schools. . We enjoy continuing to build on the relationships that have been created with our local secondary colleges. Below is a piece of writing from one of our students who attended the day.

Outdoor Education Program 2018 – Camp Gundiwindi

Camp Program 2018:

Our plans are well underway for our camping program in 2018. All of our current grade 4 and 5 students have been booked into Gundiwindi Lodge – Lewis Road, Wandin, which is only about 40 kilometres from Springvale. If you’d like to view their website, please see:

Families will receive more information in the coming weeks, with permission forms, medical information forms and ‘what to bring’ information. Letters went home last term asking for a $50.00 deposit, so if you are still to return this form, could it be done as soon as possible please.

Father’s Day Celebrations

Spring Parks Primary School celebrated Father’s day! We had lots of children and their parents attend and they all enjoyed some yummy bacon, eggs and fruit! Our fantastic parents and friends group made some delicious biscuits for our children and their Dad’s to share at home and the children drew some fantastic pictures of their Dads. Australian Ballet!

We danced, we watched we were enthralled! We even made the local paper!! Here is a short extract from the article (attached below) and some photos of this amazing program.

‘This year The Australian Ballet’s education program is bringing the brand-new initiative STEAMDANCE to Spring Parks Primary School from February 14^th to March 21^st. Students will have the chance to learn from ballet professionals when The Australian Ballet’s flagship education program visits.

STEAMDANCE is a dance-education approach to learning about STEM subjects including science, technology, engineering and maths. Designed by The Australian Ballet, this innovative and creative initiative supports students learning curriculum subjects through the arts. The STEAMDANCE program is led by The Australian Ballet’s dance education team who are specialist educators and professional dancers.

The program works in partnership with teachers to support the curriculum through a series of workshops and performances in schools to foster critical and creative thinking, literacy, numeracy, individual and cooperative learning and problem solving in students. The Australian Ballet’s schools’ version of The Sleeping Beauty will also be presented by the team, offering a fun and engaging introduction to ballet.’

Mothers Day Breakfast – What an amazing morning!

Private Music Lessons

Come and join in the fun of learning to play keyboard, guitar or ukelele here at Spring Parks Primary School.

Creative Music for school conducts a music program here at school each week. Small group classes or one-to-one lessons of up to 30 minutes give children and excellent grounding in music where they will learn to read music and play their chosen instrument.

Tuition costs from $16.20 per lesson and enrolments are now being accepted for limited places in Term 2, 2017.

Homework Club

Suzy Winterbottom will be starting homework club this term, starting on May 3rd at West Campus, and May 4th at Valley Campus. Notices will be coming home shortly for students in grades 3 – 6 to gauge an interest in who would like to attend. The session will be from 3.30 – 4.15 p.m. and will be held in the library at each campus.

Footsteps

The Footsteps program began last Thursday and will be on each Thursday during term two for all students. The Footsteps program uses dance as a vehicle to develop students’ inter/intra personal skills, fitness levels and provide teachers with classroom resources that use dance as a starting point to help teachers educate across other curriculum areas. There is no cost to parents for this activity, as all costs will be covered by the school.
